INTRODUCTION TO THEATRICAL LIGHTING

MW 10:30AM-12:30PM + four 8-hour Saturday workshops

Requirement on the Stagecraft and Management Certificates, Elective on the Makeup Certificate. 2 hours of weekly lecture, 2 hours of weekly scheduled lab. Additionally, the remaining hours will be met on the following days with in Burbank Auditorium (8 hours each): Friday 2/18, Saturday 2/19, Friday 4/8, Saturday 4/9, 2022.

ACTING IN FILM, TELEVISION AND VOICEOVER

An elective on the Acting Certificate. Hone your film acting and voiceover techniques for our new virtual world!  Meets Mondays in the Doyle Library film studio (123) and Wednesdays in the Doyle Library (145). All students who will be on the college campus spring 2022 must verify their vaccination status with the college.

    Scene Study and Characterization

    Take your acting skills to the next level with this exciting course!  Focusing on character development and scene work, it also prepares you for next year’s advanced classes and productions. (Prerequisite: THAR 10A or challenge exam/audition; contact instructor for more info!)

    World Theatre Through Time

    Journey back in time on this “tour” of great plays and amazing developments that have transformed theatre around the world. An exciting exploration of world history from a theatrical perspective.

    Zoom meetings will take place for each class session at the days/times listed above. Students are expected to be online with a functioning mic, and/or camera for the duration of the live session.

    Introduction to Theatre Arts

    ONLINE/IN PERSON COMPONENTS

    Through a lively mixture of lecture, play- attendance, and hands-on exercises, you’ll be introduced to the theatre as both an intriguing art form and important social forum. Learn about the many arts-including playwriting, design, directing, and acting-that make up this incredible art form.

    Zoom meetings will take place for each class at the days/time(s) listed above. However, this course also includes some in-person components: viewing live theatrical performances and completing 10 production hours by working in the scene shop, costume studio, ushering for the live performances, or completing publicity. For the Zoom class meetings, students are expected to be online with a functioning mic, and/or camera for the duration of the live session.

    Ever wanted to know how makeup artists make young actors look old? Or create fake wounds so real you hurt to look at them? From glamour to gore, this is the introductory course for you!

    Ever wanted to know how theatre magic is created? Curious about how they build those great sets or achieve those cool lighting effects? Find out in this class filled with creative and practical skills used in the theatre.

    This class requires a corequisite of THAR 25 or THAR 25.2, working with 1-2 live productions this spring. The 17.5 TBA hours will be met by working on productions in the scene shop.

    This class is for students working on the 1-2 spring productions. This section has a focus on lighting and sound, or scenery construction. Days and hours to be arranged during scheduled scene shop and hang and focus hours (may include selected weekdays and weekends).
